Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Cape CARES is a service organization based on Cape Cod, MA, currently serving 3 communities in Honduras. We send teams of 8-12 health care workers and support personnel to these communities 8 to 10 times a year. Our teams work in Honduras for one week. "Where we work: ... With an annual per capita income of $600, this is one of the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. There are only 900 physicians in Honduras and only one dentist per 26,000 people. The average worker makes five lempira a day, enough to buy only one pound of beans or one pound of rice. It takes a full day's work just to feed the family." The team member is responsible for the cost of his/her airfare and the in-country fee of $600. This fee covers lodging, meals, and in-country transportation. Cape CARES makes the lodging arrangements for the team. Some members who wish to extend their stay may do so, but it is their responsibility to make arrangements for travel and accommodations for the extended stay.
